Last week in our ward they went to the church bookstore and got little cards with temples on them, two of each temple. They put the pictures on the back of envelopes and put a question and answer about that temple, in the envelope, if they matched the question and answer, they would turnover the envelopes to reveal the matching temples. for junior they could just match temples and you could read the facts, It took a long time, I am sure you could put any kind of a spin on this idea to make it easier, like instead of asking questions and matching them to the anwser, you could just have two matching facts in the envelopes, I think the time would be right if you did it that way. I am sure you could get all of the pictures of the temples off the internet. They also split the room to make it a contest.
When I had to do a Sharing Time on Temples I talked on how we need to start preparing now to go to the Temple. I was aware of the children in the room that were not yet sealed to their parents.I told tham that by preparing now we will be ready to go to the temple when we want to go on a mission or get married. I talked about my grandfather and how happy I was that my grandparents were married in the temple, so that I was able to be sealed to my grandfather and see him again one day. (This would work with any relative that has passed away). I told tham that I was glad that my parents were sealed in the temple, and that my husband and I were worthy to be married in the temple, I also talked about my daughters birth, how she was adopted and not born under the covenant. How we had to wait for 6 months until we could go to the temple and be sealed to her as an eternal family. I told the children that I was so grateful for the blessings of the temple, and the blessing that come from children who let their parents go to the temple. I had a picture of the local temple for them to take home with them. This worked for both senior and junior sharing time.
We are going to be in Rexburg for a week the first on July. tin678@gmail.com. I was actually born in Salt Lake and would prefer to claim that as home, but we moved to Rexburg when I was 8 so I did grow up in Rexburg. I had a very interesting life there.
Thanks for your suggestions, Esp. you Megan. They both helped me think creatively and come up with an idea. I wrapped a box over the top cute and had a kid come up and open it to discover it was empty. Then I talked about how the wrapped box represented us and that if we didn't start to prepare to go to the temple that when the time came we would not be ready and be empty like the box. So then I placed a bunch of diff objects on the table and had them come up and pick one. Each one had a sticker underneath it with what that object represented and then a correlating song. For example: an apple represented the word of wisdom
and a shiny white shell represented baptism. So then the child would add it to our box and then we would sing the song. It went as it possibly could have. The kids were crazy today. We had like 20 visitors. I'm glad it's over...
I'm 38, married with 5 kids. I'm a full time mom which is both challenging and rewarding. I love to travel, decorate, scrapbook, read and anything that is creative.
